Form filling to convert foreign licence

Short-term social visitors to Singapore who wish to drive will be allowed to use a foreign driving licence for up to 12 months. Visitors to Singapore who intend to stay for more than a year and wish to drive will need to possess a valid Singapore driving licence.

If you do not have an existing driving licence, you will have to go through the normal procedure of getting one. If you already have a foreign driving licence, you may apply to have it converted instead.

To convert your foreign licence to a Singapore Driving Licence, you will be required to take the Basic Theory Test (BTT) at one of the three driving centres in Singapore. Upon passing, you can proceed to apply for the conversion at the Traffic Police counters at the driving centres. You must apply in person with all the relevant documents and will be charged a processing fee for the conversion.

Only Class 2B and Class 3 qualified driving licences can be converted. Class 4 and 5 driving licences may not be directly converted and drivers of such vehicles will have to undergo training and sit for a practical test. Direct conversions are also usually not granted for motorcycles of a higher capacity than Class 2B unless there is sufficient documented proof to indicate that the applicant is trained and experienced.

Singaporeans returning from abroad and permanent residents who wish to convert their foreign driving licences must show proof that they have stayed in the foreign country where they received the licence for at least one year and for legitimate reasons.
