ERP Gantry

What is ERP?

Electronic Road Pricing (ERP) is an advanced system which is used to manage traffic by applying a charge for the use of heavily used expressways and roads at certain times. Based on a pay-per-use scheme, it works in tandem with vehicle ownership measures such as the Certificate of Entitlement (COE) to better manage congestion on Singapore’s roads.

How does the ERP's system works?

The ERP system consists of toll collecting gantries located at all roads leading into the Central Business District and on expressways and arterial roads prone to heavy traffic during peak hours. Sensors on these gantries charge a toll when you pass through and payment is deducted from a stored value Cashcard through a device called an In-vehicle Unit (IU). Installing the IU is a mandatory requirement for all Singapore-registered vehicles.

Who are maintaining the system?

The Land Transport Authority (LTA) reviews the traffic conditions on ERP priced expressways and roads every quarter and revises the ERP rates if necessary, so as to improve traffic conditions.
