Procedure to Get a Driving Licence
Want to drive a car or ride a bike? Then you will need a licence. Here are the steps on what you need to do.
Make sure you meet the legal requirements
The legal requirements vary according to vehicle class. Basically you have to be at least 18, before you can start driving a car or riding a bike.
In some cases, you will need to possess a licence for one vehicle class before you can learn to drive another vehicle class. For example, to get a Class 4 licence, you need a Class 3 licence and to get a Class 2A licence, you need a class 2B licence.
Sign up for classes
There are three main driving centres where you can sign up for classes, Bukit Batok Driving Centre (BBDC), ComfortDelGro Driving Centre Pte Ltd and Singapore Safety Driving Centre (SSDC).
To get a driving licence for Class 4 or 5 vehicles, you should sign up for classes at Jurong Test Centre.
Apply for a Provisional Driving Licence (PDL)
To apply for your PDL, head down to the Traffic Police counter at the driving centre. Present your NRIC, Passport, Work Permit or
Employment Pass together with your BTT result slip, take an eyesight test and pay a processing fee.
For motorcyclists, in addition to the above-mentioned documents, you will also have to present
proof of completing the necessary circuit practical lessons.
The PDL is only valid for six months but may be renewed upon expiry.
