Taxi Guide
There are over 22,000 taxis plying Singapore’s roads and providing door-to-door service at affordable fares.
Taxis are a popular transport option for both Singaporeans and tourists.
Taxis can be flagged down on most roads, anytime of the day by signalling to the driver, except within the CBD. A lighted roof sign usually indicates a taxi that is available for service. An unavailable taxi will not turn up its light or may display a sign on its windscreen. Alternatively, you can simply wait for a taxi at a taxi stand. For your convenience, taxi stands are located just outside most major hotels and shopping centres.
Calling for a taxi is just as easy. To place a booking, you can call the Common Taxi Booking Number, 6-Dial-Cab ( 6-3425-222 ) or call a taxi company hotline or go through its website listed below
With the deregulation of the taxi services industry since 2003, there are now several taxi companies in Singapore. Each company maintains its own fare and surcharge structures but the differences between them are minimal. The liberalisation of the industry allows the taxi operators the flexibility to provide differentiated services to better meet the demands of passengers. Aside from the basic metered fare, you will have to pay a surcharge when you:
- book a taxi
- take a taxi from the Airport or Singapore Expo Centre
- take a taxi from within the Central Business District (CBD)
- take a taxi during the peak period
- take a taxi past midnight
- take a taxi on the eve of, and on a public holiday
In addition, you will also have to pay for Electronic Road Pricing (ERP) charges incurred by the taxi driver during the trip.
To find out more about fares, surcharges, products and services, you can call the taxi companies or check their websites.
